Why Nostalgia drag racing ?
 Nostalgia Drag Racing
More than any other aspect of the sport, Nostalgia Drag Racing is enjoying unprecedented growth . Last year the attendance at Goodguys Vintage Racing Association Races, the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion, NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion, Hot August Nights, the WCTA Fremont Reunion and other local nostalgia events across the country attracted over 1,000,000 fans. Events range from one day races that draw 5,000 to 25,000 people to three and four day shows attracting well over 50,000 fans. With more races, better prize money and countless new cars being built, the 2003 season will surely set records on and off the track.
Nostalgic drag racing explained further
Back in the days when drag racing was born, it was simply two guys challenging each other to see which car was the fastest. They would meet on some deserted street or road, line up side by side and from a stand still, they would launch their cars as fast as they could and try to beat the other one to a pre-determined finish line. Usually, someone would stand between the cars and drop a scarf or rag to start the race. It was very informal and sometimes very dangerous.
It proved a point. It decided who had the fastest ride and as cars developed more and more horsepower, the races got faster and drag racing became more popular. Most towns and cities had a known Drag strip somewhere where impromptu drag racing was conducted on Friday and Saturday nights.
There are literally millions of dollars spent on technology and brute force horsepower to make a certain class of car go down the strip faster than before. Back when it all started, a good run was at about 120 MPH, now a good run is almost three times that fast. There are racing teams who do nothing but drag race. They are sponsored by major corporations and companies who pour money into the sport. Drag racers have to have reaction times that are measured in thousands of a second. Tune in to an NHRA event and watch how qualifying and elimination work to decide who is the fastest driver around. This is drag racing today.
