Nostalgic Home

You are looking at a 1969 Futuro that is located in San Diego CA. A Finnish architect named Matti Suuronen designed this UFO shaped dwelling in 1968, for use as a ski-cabin or holiday home. The Futuro house was full of retro furniture and can accommodate 8 people. Durable, easy-care plastic was chosen as the material because its price was still competitive back then. Plastic was seen as a material of infinite potential that would eventually replace even concrete. It was believed that serial production would lower Futuro's price and make it affordable for just about anybody. The idea was that it was so light-weight, it was easily transportable by helicopter. Mobile living was now possible for the future. Only 20 Futuro houses were ever built. This one is Green and is in fair shape. It was lived in until 1999 and is located at the 5th Ave Design Center in downtown San Diego.
